HaloScan is getting an upgrade!
As some of you may know already, HaloScan was acquired by JS-Kit earlier this year.
In that time, despite losing the original founder (and access to the servers!), a scale that has far exceeded the original programming and the challenge of maintaining two code bases, we have tried our hardest to maintain a great commenting experience for HaloScan users.
We’ve decided to make things better.
We are making it dead simple for you to upgrade your comment service to JS-Kit Comments and keep all your old comments!
When we’re done, HaloScan users will have a brand new data center that will be much faster and more reliable than the old HaloScan systems. HaloScan users will also get 12 engineers writing new features and improving the user experience.
You can upgrade to JS-Kit Comments Today.
What are the benefits of upgrading to JS-Kit Comments?
- New data center for more reliable up-time and speed
- Dedicated team of 12 developers, Q/A, and support to create new features and support your site
- Many new features such as: Automatic sync for Wordpress & Blogger, Visitor Profiles, Video and more
- Free for everyone under 25,000 impressions per month (which is the case for most sites), no more ads, or charges for “premium” features
- No more loss of comment data after 4 months
- New complimentary widgets such as ratings, polls, navigator, and more to come
What will change after I upgrade?
- All new comment threads (I.e. Comments for a new blog post) will use the new JS-Kit comment system
- All your existing Haloscan Comments will progressively convert to JS-Kit Comments over the next few month
- JS-Kit has different templates, including a “Haloscan Classic” which looks like the current HaloScan skin. Other skins are also available.
- You will start moderating your comments from the JS-Kit Administrator Dashboard
- Additional JS-Kit comment settings (Notification, Skins etc) will be accessible on the JS-Kit Administrator Dashboard

How do I Upgrade?
- You can Upgrade now (make sure you have set your preferences)
- You can wait to be automatically upgraded started 30 days for today. You will receive a reminder email before it happens. The default settings will be applied to your new JS-Kit Comment.
What will happen if I don’t upgrade myself?
Users who choose not to upgrade right away, we will be auto-upgraded over the next couple of months. The process will be as follows:
- We will be upgrading remaining users in batches. Each batch will be notified via email before a migration occurs.
- We will convert your comment system to start using JS-Kit ‘Smooth Gray’ theme. You can then choose to change the theme from there.
- It is our hope that you will find the JS-Kit commenting system as good or better than the old HaloScan one. If, however, there is a feature of nuance that you are missing, we want to hear about it. Read below for info on how to submit feedback and get support.
- During the upgrade, there will undoubtedly be bumps along the road. We are trying our hardest to minimize these as we go, but we ask that you try to be as patient as possible when they inevitably occur. We know your comment system is important to you and your users and we take your user experience very seriously!
